The Gray Day
It is a gray day today.
The leaves are still.
No sound of birds
No sign of the sun rays
Death is waving back and forth, waiting to sting
Where should we all go?
Where can we hide?
One sting, no more breath, no more life here on earth
What is this sorrow?
Where does it come from?
The writings explain how meaningless all things are under the sun
The striving of the heart longs for that meaningless thing
How gray is this day
Can anyone perceive the day of death?
Treasures, gains, desires, wants
What is this gray day?
In one second, just like that… ahhhh
The gray day
How quiet you are
How silent are your steps
Clever, precise, on time
Why do you sometimes let yourself be seen?
Why do you like decay?
Do I know you death?
What a gray day it is
Everything is still, no signs of breath
The skies are gray
The clouds are waiting to cry
Who will wipe the tears of this gray day?
Who has the final say on this gray day?
There is that soft and gentle voice
We are so small
When we are touched, we dissipate in the air
Did God take a deep breath?
Her lungs collapse
Her soul longs to go
There is the whisper, "breath out, O soul"
What a gray day
Was the soul touched? Did death have the final say?
"When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: 'Death has been swallowed up in victory. Where, O death, is your victory? Where O death is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Imagine! Now there is death.
Swallowed up, overcome by the light
Now I hear voices singing
Now I see the day
You are here, yes, you are here, wonderful day
Where is the gray day?
Where is the sting of death?
On this gray day, death was seen no more.

In the closet, empty space
Under the bed, empty space
Down the stairs, empty space
All around me, an empty space
Hallowed heart, loud heartbeat
Innocence cries, who knows me?
I hear voices outside my room
I close my eyes and bring myself back inside. Inside my inner being, that is, where no one screams, no one gleams, no one dreams, no one redeems
I am faint, I cannot breathe
I hyperventilate, so no one sees
No one gleams, no one dreams
No one redeems. Who would save me?
The night has come
Everyone is gone
I go outside, and no one knows
I lay on the grass and stared at the stars
Little tears, the innocent cries
I screamed, but no one heard
I closed my eyes, but the night is cold
I go to the closet, but my heartbeat is too strong
Have you ever heard a stump?
I have. Stomps are loud inside the heart where no one knows
No one sees, no one gleams, no one dreams, and no one redeems
In that hallowed place, I hear a whisper
Hush, little whisper, I am afraid
I must hide, I must go back inside
Where no one screams, no one sees, no one gleams, no one dreams, where I am alone, and no one redeems

This is the story of the heart of a little girl who cries out in the night as she goes outside when everyone is asleep. Often, she would hide in the closet or under the bed, seeking security. The world around her seemed so big that she often felt anxious and unprotected. She was full of fear. She wondered about the hollow emptiness she perceived. She stared at the stars and hoped not to hear the loud heartbeats when she’s anxious. She hides her anxiety by crying in silence while feeling unsure if she is heard, seen, or safe.
How many of us have felt this way? If this is you, you are not alone. If that little person still cries? Please know that Jesus not only redeems but also gives us life and heals our souls. I was that little girl, I was less than eight years old. Today I have been found, loved, heard, and redeemed. Surrender to Jesus, He cares!
Ps 34:17
"The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
